BIRD
BATHS
Having a bird bath, feeder and bird house in plain view from
a comfy chair can be as relaxing as a fish tank but a lot less work.
You don't have to worry about feeding them when you
go
on
vacation. They will be back when you do. You can
mount a
small bird bath for just one bird at a time or a large bird bath for
splashing parties. Small birds don't like to bath alone.
A Bird bath can be a gorgeous piece of art or a simple pie pan.
Whether you select a brass cattail sculpture bird bath and
feeder, a red enameled center piece, a beautiful plate that hangs over
your balcony ledge or a standard bird bath with a solar powered
fountain, the bird will show their appreciation for your
efforts
by using and enjoying your bird bath.
Bird baths can be mounted on a pedestal, lumber, limb of a tree, ledge
of a deck, inside or outside corner of a building, or a single metal
pole. There are also the bird baths that hang by chains,
rods,
rubber suction cups (on windows), fancy arms, rope
or wire. Last but by no means least, there are the stand
alone
bird baths. Some times the base needs to be secured with sand
or
rocks but for the most part they really do stand alone, just about
anywhere.
When locating a bird bath consider the refilling process.
You can situate a bird bath to catch the
rain water or
sprinkler water to make life easy. For a sick person a window mounted
bird bath visible from a bed, desk or dinning table, would make a great
gift. However,
when ever possible, a large space
around the bird
bath is preferable because it allows the birds to fly in and out at a
moments notice, from all angles. Regardless of which kind you
choose, they will
find
any bird bath with clean water.
When you provide clean water in a safe
place, the birds they will come every day for a drink and a bath,
weather permitting. For many birds you may be supplying their
only reliable refreshment. Snow
covered
ground mean refreshing water is hard to come by. Deserts don't present
many options for a sip of water either. Most big cities
have fountains where the birds can sneak a drink, but a friendly patio
can serve as a shelter
from screaming children and predators while you can enjoy watching them
for hours.

books on the birds in your area.
